Best of 2014: Music photography

2014 was huge for my music photography. I shot some of my favourite rappers, discovered new bands and met a lot of peers I can now call friends.

I don’t keep a list of all the gigs I’ve shot like some other music photographers do. Maybe I should for 2015. I never think it’s worth it until December 31 each year. But regardless, I have my list of bands I’ve shot, and it’s grown a lot since last year. I shot both Soundwave and (possibly the last) Big Day Out. The Palace Theatre closed its doors after the keys were handed over to a private developer, but not before I got to shoot KoRn and Rob Zombie inside it.

Crowbar continued to showcase the best of heavy music, both international and local talents. My personal favourite at Crowbar this year was seeing pals High Tension play with The Bronx. Both are awesome, genuine people who are a pleasure to shoot. Trad Nathan welcomed me to the Crowbar family as their venue photographer and I look forward to working with him and the team again in 2015. We have some great ideas for the year as it unfolds.

I had work published by a range of publications, including VICE’s Noisey Music, Jetstar’s in-flight magazine (odd, but true), The Age, Style Magazine and some others I was really happy to contribute to. I also did an interview on iPhoneography for ABC Radio in Melbourne and appeared on Ice T’s podcast.

My folder of final music photography images for 2014 ended at 6,006. Most images I don’t show here on my website because of contractual obligations with publishers, bands or venue management. Other images I am just keeping for future use in some projects I am working on. Here are some of my personal highlights of 2014.
